proper shifting rpms gl1200A

I was just wondering is there is a proper or reccomended shifting rpm or speed for the gl1200a that will save fuel and incress mpg. My old goldwing never wanted to shift till it was 3500rpm for a smooth ride with no jerking but that goldwing also was 3000+k miles on it and fully maintained by the army motorpool. My current goldwimg wants to be shifted at 2500+ rpm and it just seems low to me maybe i'm wrong. thats why i wanted to ask.

I generally shift mine between 3000-3500 rpms. You can shift fine at 2500, but that tends to lug the motor. It's a trade off as to whether you save gas at 2500 or 3500. Depends on how it's driven. If it shifts poorly you might try running some Delo or Rotella oil for awhile.
