Blinkers

I have hazard lights but no blinkers. What could be the problem?

Could be the flasher unit. Went riding a couple of days ago (100+ degrees). Everything was working when I left. I did notice that the radio would cut out as I hit a few bumps. Then I noticed the volts were dropping and then my turn signals stopped working.

I've traced what I could (and replaced the two flasher units w/ electronic auto units). Right turn signal works just fine. Left one doesn't work at all. Hazards flash quickly (front) not at all (back) and no indicators on the dash. I'm guessing it's somewhere in the left side wiring, just don't know where to start.

Stupid wiring - keeping me from riding :(

I have a 1985 GL1200 US Import (I'm in the UK) and also have hazards and no indicators. :? I am trying to find the relays. I think one is just in front of the regulator under the dummy tank and the other is nestled under the steering head/stem. Could anyone let me know if I'm right and if not where are the relays' situated. :)
Thanks for your time, Bob

With voltage dropping that will give your turn signals problems, you need 12 volts for them to work. It also sounds like you had a bad connection someplace as you said when you hit bumps the radio quit and the voltage dropped. Check connections, esp. grounds at the frame, they are neglegted and a lot of times corroded.Once you get the charging sys. straightened out the turn signals should work better. If not, get back to us, I am sure we can figure it out.

I was thinking short because the fuse for hazard/turn signals blew. But I'll check ground connections first and see what I can find.

You didn't say anything about a fuse burnt.Having the whole story helps to figure out the problem. Then yes you prob. have a crossed wire someplace in the rear turn curcuit.

My problem solved! Yes, it was a ground wire. The one leading to the left trunk blinker light was pinched between the trunk and the mounting rail. As I bounced down the road it finally severed the wire inside and killed the ground. If I kept trying to use the flashers, it would blow the flasher fuse.

Of course, I removed the seat, false tank, right and left saddlebags and replaced the flasher units with electronic car units before I noticed the pinched wire

 Maybe I should've included pics on the last post.

The offending ground wire

Yep, I tore it down this far before I found the offending wire (which wouldn't have required any teardown :(
