Hi fellow 86ers! On my Aspencade, I would like the dash lights to be MUCH brighter. What are the stock bulb types/numbers? and has any 86 Aspencade owner gone to LEDs? If so what number bulb?
Last question, are the things on the sides of the fairing that appear yellow reflectors or side marker lights (underneath the Honda Name). They look like lights to me? If so, mine are dead.
Thanks in advance for help on both questions. -PJ

Re: Dash Lights
not sure about the dash light bulbs, mines the Aspencade with LCD display - does anyone know how to get the clock and radio display working, I expect its a fuse somewhere??
The sidemarker is (or appears to be) a reflector, but it would be cool to replace with an LED unit!

On the side marker lights you can find the reflectors on line they should be plug and play. My 84 has just the reflectors on it but my 85 has the lighted ones. Go on e-bay type in gl1200 and look for them, good luck. Hal

Dimmer/rheostat? Really? Where would it be on an '86? My Lights are so dim at night I can't read anything on them.

Re: Dash Lights
Everything I have read to date, say I must replace all the bulbs to get a bright dash again. If there is a dimmer, I sure would like to locate it!

Re: Dash Lights
Spectre, I studied the diagram. Fuse #7 powers the instrument lamps through a brown wire with white stripe. There appears to be no dimmer. The bulbs are a #57 according to the factory manual and they are rated at 2 candlepower and draw .24 amp. If you can locate a different lamp with the same style bayonet base but with a higher currant draw, they will be also rated a higher wattage and therefore brighter. Be careful. Higher wattage means more heat. You wouldn't want to damage any plastic parts inside the speedo and tach with the extra heat. You may find an LED replacement with the same physical dimensions but with a higher candlepower rating. Even only a 3 candlepower would still be a 50% increase in brightness. Good luck!
