Converting 84 interstate to stripped goldwing

Hey guys and gals. New to this area. I "inherited" an 84 interstate from a family friend. I'm not a big fand of the full dresser look but it was a free bike that runs good. I am in the process of removing the front fairing and just putting a headlight and blinkers in the front. My question is some body work. The faux tank has some openings on the side that are covered by the fairing. It was also supported by said fairing. Any ideas on how to make this look nice? I got some ideas of my own but always searching for wisdom. :D

I have seen guys cut and glass the side openings on the tank with good success or you can find a 1100 tank and run with that. The 1100 Faux tank dosent need any mods to fit just a couple small mounting brackets.

Trying to convert my 84 GL1200I to standard by removing the fairing as well. You mentioned that the gl1100 faux tank would work on the GL1200, how much of adjustments are required to get a good fit? are we talking very lite welding of small screw brackets or some major cutting and welding. thanks.

I'd like to hear more about this project too.
I am wrong as often as I am right concerning what is wrong with someone else' motorcycle without having seen the machine in person. Guessing with limited information, as to the source of the trouble, is sketchy at best.

Hi I am doing the same conversion but on a 1985. The tank cover from a 1984 gl1200 standard will drop right on and all the mounting locations line right up. My problem is gauges I need a set of 1984 standards.
