Split throttle tube.

Postby ripsaw » Mon Sep 03, 2012 9:12 am

After having found out my 86 1200 throttle tube is split I bought a set of ebay. When I got around to having a look the left hand side is easy but it looks a little more involved. Has anyone taken the throttle grip/ controls off? How is it done best?

It's not that hard. First, loosen off the throttle cable adjusters as much as you can. Then unscrew the screws on the bottom of the right switch assembly, and split the switch apart into top and bottom halves. The throttle cables pull out of the twist tube sideways, then the tube and grip can be slid off the handlebar. Grease the inside of the new tube before installing it, and reassemble in reverse order.
