choke cable

Postby beaubaxter » Thu Mar 11, 2010 1:56 pm

when i bought this gold wing some one took the choke cable off the bike even though it runs good with out it it is hard to start in 30 degree weather you have to finece the throttle a little untill you get some heat in the holes . i just want to no how hard it is to put one in and why they took it al the way out just like the clutch thing i will just ask a lot of questions and look at the service manual

I don't know for sure, but I would be surprised if the choke cable on a GL1200 connects a lot differently than on a GL1100 - at least at the throttle end. On the 1982 GL1100A, which I have (and is pictured in the How to replace your choke cable article), the top end is just a knob you pull out. Later Goldwings had a lever that was turned on the handgrip.

I just got done workig on a 1985. The choke cable is on the left handle control, runs down to the left side of the carb bank and hooks up in the lower front of the bank. You will have to pull the carbs out (to the left side) about half way to get the cable off.

My guess is, who ever had it before you took the cable too because it was frozen and did not want to go through the work to replace the cable. It is a lot of work to replace the cable. You know, you could just open / close the choke plungers with your fingers and no even worry about the cable. I would not worry about it until you have to take the carbs out for some reason.

yes i just bought the bike someone i no had it and gave up on it when the clutch wasnt working and he took it to a couzin that has a bike repair shop and he told him that the whole motor had to come out because the clutch was stuck together. so he went and bought a harley and let it sit in his garage for 2 years ! so i checked with people and found out that the clutch can be taken out with out pulling the motor out so i bought it from him and then i found this web site and was able to look at the shop manuals and was able to figure it out so now it runs and goes down the road now i am going to sell it cant ride anymore i have m.s and it is killing me not to ride it i had to have a freind ride it for me but there is a new medecine out for m.s and hopefully next week i will get the prescription for it after i take a e.e.g it suppose to help with mobility so you never know i might be able to ride again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a friend with MS as well. She was quite bad at one point, and has tried several medicines, but with the medicine she is on now, she's doing quite well - you can hardly tell there's anything wrong, and even then only if you know what to look for. She says it's hardly affecting her daily life now.

So let's hope you can get back to good shape again! Did your friend at least give you a ride down the road? :)
