looking for parts

Postby lunchbox06 » Fri Sep 21, 2012 9:27 pm

i have a 84 goldwing interstate that a bought a few years ago and played with it some and then put it up for two years. dug the bike out and put fresh gas and a charge in the battery and shockingly it fired right up. after a few days of working on it i got it up and running smoothly and its almost ready for the road. i am looking for a few parts that i cants seem to find and need some help. i need tires, a new trunk, a left saddle bag lid, and all the lower front fairings. and i also need to know what type of oil is recomended for the motor and the rear-end. and tips as to were i can find the parts would be great.

Hello and welcome to the gang! As far as the body parts go you may have some luck on EBAY... Others on this forum may be able to direct you to some motorcycle salvage yards as well. Tires can be purchased online or at your local dealer. I found great deals at motorcycle-superstore.com Just be sure to get the correct size and load rating for these bikes as they are heavy machines. Oil for the rear end you can use a high grade hypoid gear oil. Motor oil you will get a hundred different opinions on..... some love synthetic, some motorcycle grade oil, some heavy automotive oil and still others like oil designed for diesel engines. The main thing to remember is to stay away from oils with friction modifiers as these can damage the clutch. I personally have always run Mobile 1 synthetic. Good luck with your project and keep us updated!

thanks for the info. i asked someone at a motorcycle shop and they said that a 80w-90 gear oil would be fine for the rear-end. is that the same thing cause i haven't been able to find the kind of oil that you guys said? would like to make sure before i put the wrong stuff in it and tear something up.

Go to your local NAPA store and find this - it will work perfectly, and is fully synthetic, high quality gear oil:

ok thanks for the help. i was looking on ebay and have been able to find most of the parts i need to make the bike look complete. i still need a trunk and the lower front fairings for it. anyone have any ideas on were i might be able to get them and not pay an arm and a leg for them? i have seen a few trunks but they want like $400 for them and i cant afford that right now.

You may end up paying the price my friend as parts for these are continually getting harder to find.
