Exhaust removal

Postby Hagafan » Wed Sep 26, 2012 10:58 am

I need to remove my exhaust to weld up a couple of holes while I save for a stainless system. My question is can I remove it in one piece, I am afraid that if I have to separate the components I will end up with more issues.

Yes you can, but it is a bit harder to do. Pretty sure you need the rear wheel off, or the bike suspended from an overhead by straps. If you can take one header pipe off it makes it easier. If I remember correctly there is a clearance issue with the center stand, but I'm sure you can rotate the exhaust assembly to clear.
The time I took it off in one piece I was able to hoist the bike up from an overhead beam with chain falls and nylon straps, then with the center stand down I was able to spin the exhaust sideways and slide it out from around the stand. I reassembled it in pieces however.
