Alternator conversion starts on Friday

Postby Phunnybone » Thu Oct 04, 2012 9:37 am

Got the tracking info on my dupli-tech alternator conversion kit. It'll be here Friday, so I know what I'll be doing this weekend :) I'll try to remember to take pictures to post.

Suppose I should update this and put a few pics in. I got everything installed in October 2012. Then it got cold. Then I moved. Then she was stuffed in a crowded garage. Then I moved again. So, finally, I can post a few pics and I now have two 85 LTDs to work on.

I had to cut a notch in the aluminum plate that they sent so that it would slide over the original right-hand (on the bike) timing belt cover. If I remember correctly, I also had a little difficulty securing the new aluminum cover to the bike.

I also installed a panel for a few extra toys.

thank you very much for posting this conversion, it was something I seriously considered, when my girl blew the stator, but decided against it, because I couldn't find enough info on it.

having now seen it installed, its something to consider should it happen again.

thanks again

I debated between the poor boy and the duplitech conversion. Ended up doing the Duplitech simply because it came with all the parts included.

Next project is getting an $800 'spare parts' LTD running. While I'm at it I'll be attempting to turn it to the dark side (gotta replace tires anyway, so I might as well give it a shot).

It'll go back under the faring when all is said and done. I'll probably need to trim right behind the cornering light to fit that section back on.
