Cruise Control

Postby Stretch56 » Fri Mar 19, 2010 7:08 am

I have a Zemco ZT11 cruise control on my 86 Aspy. Anyone have any info on one of these? Bought the bike last December, cleaned alot and repaired a few minor things over the winter, rode it for the first time a couple days ago. I was real happy, seems to run real good. Only issues so far, cruise did not seem to work, right front caliper was a little wet. Going to get the parts for the caliper rebuild this weekend, don't know what to do with the cruise. Not the worst thing, don't know how much I would use it any way.

I'd first have a look at the simple things - is there power getting to the cruise computer? Is its fuse blown?

Make sure the caliper is wet with brake fluid, and not from a leaky fork before tearing into it.

I have a throttle lock on my 1100, that I use quite often - simply because it helps with keeping your wrist from getting sore. It's quick and easy to use and set, and easily overridden. I don't know how much I would end up using a cruise, simply because it's that much more complex to use. We'll see one day, I suppose.

I won't be much help on fixing your cruise, but from my standpoint, I'd rather have cruise than the throttle lock. I hope to put cruise on mine. I have a harder time keep a steady speed with the throttle lock. I hope to have a unit installed on mine this year. Sure would be a whole lot easier when I'm group leader on weekend rides. Keep us posted

That's for sure - with the throttle lock, you do have to constantly adjust to maintain a set speed, when going up and down hills, or when in the draft from other vehicles, etc. I suppose the cruise control *would* be nice for that.

Took the front brakes and wheel off today. Kind of a pain with the chrome disk covers. But hey they look good and how often do we want to take a wheel off! I really can't tell where the oil was coming from. The caliper looks good no wetness around the pistons. The pistons even cleaned up good. I'm going to go ahead and put new pads on the front they are about 50%. The upper fork seals have never shown any leakage. So I guess I will clean it all up and put it back together and see if the oil shows up again. Then I will check the cruise out further and see what I can find. The weather kind of went down hill this weekend so hopefully I can find something and ride it later this week.
