newbie on the site

Postby capnfred » Wed Mar 24, 2010 10:58 pm

Hello everyone, went looking for the manuals using my old link, and discovered that now its a forum... good job.. anyway I ride an 84 Aspy, member of GWRRA, and love my ride....retired Navy...living in SW Fla. have a ton of GW stuff that we are selling on Ebay soon... but not yet.. so if anyone needs bits and pieces from a 1200 let me know... have lots of experience with the audio system... had to fix mine when I first got it.... got it all working.... cb intercom etc... did most of the wiring myself, built my own headset, etc....had a hard time with the price of JM hardware....so made my own....happy to share... anyway again... great site... one last thing... there is a new device on the market, its an inertially operated rear light, when you slow down it rapidly flashes an intesnse led array on the back... this is totally independant of the brake lights.... really makes the cagers back off and leave me some space... its made right here in Ft. Myers Beach.... if interested email me and I will turn you on to it.... I am not selling it, just saying its great, every rider should have one.... may save your life one day....enuf said for now... looking forward to meeting everyone here.

Hi there, and welcome to the site!

Just out of interest, what did you use for a microphone when you built your own headset? I know I considered doing the same thing, but had a hard time finding a dynamic element for the microphone.

I used 1/2 of a cheap headset ,,, after all the headsets are electrically the same as a dynamic mike......not the earbuds..these are about the size of a quarter.....stuck them on the inside of helmet (full face) with velcro..... will take some pics if your interested...

Of course, why didn't I ever think of that?!?!? A small earbud headset makes a perfect dynamic mike. I'm now ashamed I didn't come up with that idea myself. :)

I tried using earbuds, with my helmet (full face)... the pressure on the ears was way too much,,, I went to Wally world, got a cheap stereo headset, disemboweled it, ground off any excess plastic, fit them inside the liner....voila..total cost exclusive of the din wire was less than 20.00, now we have headsets in both helmets, and also have intercom....one other mod I had to make was to punch holes in the liner so the sound was not attenuated too much..... tomorrow we are riding down to the keys...so that will be my trial by fire....
