Main wire harness

Postby varganoki » Thu Mar 25, 2010 1:10 am

Has anyone tackled this? I just found out I need to replace this. The local Honda dealer will not touch it. I looked on ebay and there are used ones. Honda apparently no longer carries this part.

Why do you need to replace it, it is completely burnt...

It is burnt in some spots. I'm going by what the local dealer told me yesterday. Just trying to get an idea of what I am getting into and if it is worth it.

Just depends on how badly you want to keep the bike I guess.
Never done it myself but cant see it being that bad a job.

If the connectors are not burned, then its pretty easy to just splice in a new wire.... after all this is just a bunch of wires in a sheath.......can you be a bit more specific as to what is wrong with the harness.....have done lots of rewiring, not difficult.... if you do this make sure you document what you have done....if you really want a harness I may have one.... drop me line and we can discuss it in detail....

As I said, I am going by what the dealer told me. I know I have a short somewhere cause if I leave the battery connected it drains down in a couple days. I had the stator and rectifier replaced last year, in June. Until I tear the bike apart I won't really know how bad it is. I'd have to take it apart anyway to find the short.

Pull all the fuses out, put an ammeter on the battery, and with the bike turned off, start putting the fuses back in, one by one. When you see a current draw on the ammeter, you'll know which circuit is causing the battery to draw down - that will help you at least start finding the problem.

I will give this a try, thanks
