neutral light

Postby kamirider » Fri Mar 26, 2010 5:08 pm

I pulled the rear wheel for a tire change on my '84 Gold Wing now that I got it back together the neutral comes on when the bike is in second gear instead of between first and second. Anyone come across something like this before?

I think I might have figured it out. I also had the front transmission cover of to change the water pump. If that's where the switch is I will have to take it all apart again.
I did see a small shaft with a pin through it with wires running from it. Is that the neutral switch?

The front transmission cover is what did it to you. You are unfortunately going to have to take it off again to fix the problem.

Have a look at this page: How to remove and replace your water pump - starting at step 110, it shows how to properly align the neutral switch when you're reassembling the front engine cover.

For future reference when working with O rings.

A smear of Crisco on the rings will hold them in place, you can use Vaseline as well but certain types of O rings are prone to damage from using petroleum product, I don't think our bikes use that type though.

Vaseline is fine for our bikes. I used it to do mine.
