85 GL1200A Not even an attempt to start

Hello All,

My bike is almost totally apart. This has been done to make repairs and upgrades. My entire front fairing has been removed as has been the carbeurators (did not like/trust the throttle cables). Besides which I also was in the process of adding cruise control hence the entire right handle throttle control unit is being replaced. (I think ??? my only challenge there is the cables that feed/return from the front brake. There were only two the new connector wants there to be four)

After installing a trunk light I wanted to test my work so I started the bike on four seperate occassions. The bike started and the trunk light worked wonderfully.

Now the bike will not even begin to make believe it wants to start. Turn the ignition key depress the clutch (no clue what gear it is in) then press the start button ... NOTHING! Not even a click.

Any assistance at tracing and diagnosing this challenge will be appreciated.

Get your test light...Locate the 2 small wires on the start solenoid, there closest to the lugs.
Probe them...one should have 12 volts on it when you push the start button.
The other should have no volts,it's the ground circuit,eg.neutral safety circuit.

If there is no volts on EITHER one, move up to the start button wires looking for the volts.
If there IS volts on BOTH wires, the clutch switch is suspect.

Do you have a schematic???
It can be downloaded from this site.
