1984 GL 1200I Carb Cough

Postby 1Oldman » Fri Feb 22, 2013 11:42 am

MY 1984 had a Carb cough at 1500 and 2500, required a lot of chock, when I purchased it with 15K on it in Oct 2012 and Honda told me run carb cleaner (Sea Foam) in the gas to clean it. It did not work after two tanks fulls. After reading Goldwing Doc desided to rebuild carbs to include, manifold o-rings, air flow value and slide diaphragms, as three out of four were torn. The tolal cost was about $400 including a set of four sync gauges. It took me three days working about 3 hours a day to remove, teardown rebuild, install and sync but all problems are now gone and runs great. I think I saved about $500 in labor by doing myself, had borother-in-law who helped.

Thanks, it is nice to get back to ridding after 30 years, had to get a licence because last time had bikes and rode no special license was required.
