Fairing Panel Removal

Postby goodoni » Sat Mar 23, 2013 9:30 am

Hello Wingers,

I have an 84 Interstate, The PO mounted (4) Aux. light switches to the top right fairing pocket cover.
I would like to move the switches straight down to the blank panel just in front of my right knee.
The problem is, I cannot figure out how to remove this panel.
There are no screws, it looks like it could be pressed in, but I do not want to break it.
I think would be a good place for the switches, but I don't know what's behind the panel.
Any help is appreciated.

Ride Safe,
Goodoni

On my '86 Interstate, which looks the same, it can be just un-snapped by using a thin metal ruler, etc.
There are four plastic tabs on the cover, one it each corner.

Better yet, here's some pics...

Wog,

You're on the same forum's I'm on.
I love these sites, they take the doubt out of anything I'm doing to my wing.

Thanks again,
Goodoni

Rather than prying it from the outside, with old brittle plastic, I'd probably remove the pocket above, and press the locking tabs down from the inside to release them before pushing the panel out.

I've also found that heating them with a heat gun on low or a hair dryer helps to soften them without breaking...
