'84 Aspe Speedometer after starter change

Post by Gkopriva » Wed Apr 17, 2013 7:48 pm

Here is a good one. My starter died and i can happily say that I was able to change it without removing the engine -- thanks to all that had chimed in -- took longer than I thought but can say she starts up nicely. However, I'm wondering if I may have caused another problem.

When I took the bike out for its first ride after the starter change I noticed the display lit up for all guages except the speed. She shifted fine and ran smooth. I did notice the clutch seemed a bit spongy but seemed to firm up. The suprise came when I shifted a bit harder than normal and poof, the MPH magically came on but my happiness did not last long as another shft about 10 minutes later changed the display to just a zero.

I looked through both my repair manuals but nothing suggested a tie in from the clutch to the speedometer.... does anyone have any suggestions? also, not sure if it matters but the auto cancel on the turn signals are also not working now.

auto cancellation and spedo are operated by a pulse generator attached to the front wheel.Look for a loose connector from it.
