hard start when hot

Postby petarm1 » Sun May 05, 2013 7:47 pm

also on my first ride I have discovered when hot out. when I shut my bike off and went to start it again it is like it is not getting any fuel. like it is vapour locked or flooded. is there anything I can do about that or do I just ride in cooler weather :D

I have not had the experience my self. While on another goldwing site I read a post that several people had replied to about this. They said that the problem was in the Ignition pulse generators. They are located behind the timming covers and pick up electrical impulses from magnets on the crank shaft. The extra heat had apparently made them not function correctly. So the bike does not know when to tell the ingition and coils to fire. The bike would start slowly and back fire and miss. After the bike cooled off it would function normally for a while untill it got hot again. Found this info on North Americian Goldwing Forum.

Troubleshoot.
Questions...fuel injected or carbs.
When it is hot and won't start, remove one spark plug wire and attach a spare plug to it.Lay it on the engine and crank the bike.
Look for a good strong spark.
If it's not there, the mentioned pulse coil is first suspect.
If you have plenty of spark seemingly correct, you have a fuel delivery problem.
Carb and fuel injected models have different test points to look at.
