Electrical blowout

Postby jdmilleresq » Fri May 24, 2013 2:13 pm

Hi, new to forum. I bought an GL1200 with a lot of problems. It was running well and the electrical system, while very rigged up, seemed OK for the most part. In the process of rewiring a few circuits though I shorted out the ignition switch wire against metal. It sparked then the whole bike is dead. I checked the fuses under the dummy tank, all ok. Battery still strong. I can't find any breakers. I tried to find a fusible link or breaker in the wiring diagram but can't see one. Does anyone have a guess at what I blew???

Thanks in advance.

The main 30 amp doggone fuse.....At the starter solenoid, unplug the 4 wire plug, open the trap door to expose the fuse link. There's usually a spare in the lid.
We usually replace the whole thing with a 30 amp waterproof fuseholder and auto type fuse.

Virgil beat me to it, check around the starter motor solenoid (Near the battery) there is a main 30amp fuse that probably popped, you will need a screw driver to change it.
