white smoke when started

Postby tprender » Sat Jun 01, 2013 2:46 pm

I have this '86 that I finished up getting back top running shape that had been setting for over 4 yrs. Now that I have it running, I noticed that when I state the bike after it has been sitting for a day or so I get a small amount of white smoke when it is started. The has only 39,000 miles on the clock right now. I am only getting about 39 mpg. Yes I did the carbs and have set them twice. Is this white smoke from gas or water and how bad of a problem do I have? The bike running real good and starts up with no problems.

If its been on the side stand the 1200's will usually smoke for a second when first started, oil pools in the lowest part of the motor and seeps into the cylinders on that side. No big deal as long as its not a steady thing.

Mine will do it too, once about every two weeks of starting it daily. It's getting less frequent now that I'm riding it more. I wouldn't even worry about it at all.
