Temp gauge not working

Post by tongy66086 » Tue Jun 04, 2013 6:02 pm

This past winter, I had taken the engine to my 84 Aspencade out for some maintenance. The fairing was also removed.

After all was put back together, I found that my fuel pump had gone bad because the fuel pump relay burned a hole in itself.

I have it all back together, runs like a Goldwing should, but I have no temp gauge.

I've checked the connection at the sending unit, and all connections between the frame and faring seem to be good and tight.

Can someone tell me what wiring I should be looking for and what the test is to see if my problem is gauge, sending unit or wiring.

Thank you so much for your help.

on my 84 interstate I have a 7 volt regulator on both the temp gauge and fuel gauges. it could be that or corroded connections.

If you pull off the connector and jump the leads, you should get a reading that says the engines about to melt down. If that works, your wiring is good and it's either the connection to the sending unit, or the unit itself. Start there, then work your way up to the dash.
