86 wing to lean

Post by Gunnar Már » Wed Jun 26, 2013 2:40 pm

Hi all

I have a GL 1100 with a 1986 1200 engine in it, all summer I've been fighting with a small hesitation when I'm in fifth gear and put a heavy load on her, just last night I tryed to pull the choke lever and then she skreamed and the hesitation went away, so she is to lean.
Is that adjustable without removing the carbs?
When my short riding session is over I'm going to give the carbs a real overhaul but until then I just want to ride as much gasket I can.
Best to all
Greetings from Iceland
Gunnar

I had a 84 gl1200 that stumbled from 1500-2500 rpm...I added a shim/washer under the main jet needle to eliminate the problem.Yes the carbs have to come out....Here's a post on mine...viewtopic.php?f=5&t=9179

Isn't the main jet needle just out from the bottom of the slides? It can be reached without removing carbs on my bike at least.
Maybe I don' understand correctly.

You got the details right, but I couldn't extract the slides from the carb body while on my bike.

Hi all

I put a washer 1mm thick under the needle and it got a lot better so I´m going to leave it at that for now, but when the season is over I´m going to get a carb overhaul kit and dig my way all the way in and hopefully it will be just like new after that.
I´m also noticing a hung idle that goes away if I touch the screw to synch the rear right carb.

Best to all Gunnar Már
