Afraid to ride the wing !

Postby Tigman » Thu Jun 27, 2013 4:16 pm

Hello all, I am new to this Forum. Would appreciate any ideas.
I have a 1200 Aspencade (carburated).
18,000 orig. miles by myself.

Last fall I went for a ride and it started to run poorly. This started to happen about 30 minutes into my ride. Like only running on one cylinder,no power. When I came to a stop it would quit. Waited a while to restart and ran fine for a while, then sluggish again.

Any ideas as to where to start would be helpful.
Have not changed the fuel filter or filter pump. still original.

Thanks, John

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I'm thinking pulse generator(s) one may have gone bad.

There is a post on how to test the pulse coils on the bike while running to see if they are failing.
Post if you can't find it.A cheap WalMart meter is used.
In the mean time, verify the battery is being charged by the bike and by all means replace the fuel filter( timing belts too )...
I also found corrosion in the 4 wire pulse coil plug on mine.It would near kill the engine.
It's next to the 3 yellow stator plug (left of the battery) which also should be inspected.
