Clicking engine noise on hard throttle

Postby Blue&Gold » Sun Jul 07, 2013 10:04 am

HI my '87 GL1200 Interstate has a clicking (snapping) noise on hard throttle. Seems to be ignition related. I've tried higher octane fuel to eliminate predetonation pinging. Is it timing related or possibly leaky ignition wiring?

Hi BLUE AND GOLD...
I had a clicking on my gl1200 and it ended up being the rear differential and driven gear.

I had found out that the shop I used to mount new tires on my bike never serviced the driven gear with grease and most likely wiped it clean...
Just a thought. in case you recently had new tires installed...

I decided to do the gl 1500 rear wheel and diff. upgrade.....it is a great mod. with the larger brake rotor and gearing..
