High RPM's between shifting

Postby jtraub » Fri Jul 19, 2013 5:49 pm

Just purchased 85' GL1200A and runs great but does not want to de-accelerate between gears. I am having to wait a few seconds before shifting up. Any solutions? (have been putting carb cleaner in for the past 5 tanks of gas)

Is the throttle cable free? Is the Idle is OK when first started?
I've seen this happen when the cable is not routed properly.

The bike starts great, idle is excellent. I have sprayed the linkage with a cleaner (CRC) and all seems O.K. with that. Someone mentioned about an air flow valve. I am looking into that right now, but like I had mentioned the bike runs great, just does not want to react quickly when shifting. Thanks in advance for any help....Love riding this thing!

If you disconnect the cable from the carbs, does the throttle return properly when you manually snap it open?
If it still has the high idle I might look for a vac. leak...

I will try to disconnect the cable in the AM. I also need to check to see if my choke is closing all the way. I will also look for vac. leaks. Thanks again for the suggestions. :D

Does anyone have a picture of how the cables should be routed? I'm having a similar problem.

off the handle bar between the Y in the frame at the neck then around the left side if the motor. It runs below the tank cover on the left side or it will pinch the cable. You will be able to see them below the tank cover.
