wobbles

Postby roottonic » Sun Jul 28, 2013 8:53 am

howdy, recently purchased a 87 aspencade with 50000 miles on it . great condition and looks like was always well maintained. 1 prob. wobbles whenyou take hand off bars, slower the speed worse wobble gets. only happens at deceleration. tires are about 90% steers great , no wobble or shaking at all at acceleration or cruising, rides great. any ideas? Thanks in advance

Does it wobble at all speeds when you take your hands off or is it just between 35 and 40 mph?

If your 1200 still has the original ball bearings in the steering head that is where I would start looking. If so a set of tapered roller bearings should help with the wobble problem. There are multitudes of threads addressing the wobble on decel problem with all models of GoldWings.
Some swear that a new front tire will solve it. Some have solved it with a re-torque of the swing arm. Some have had the rear tire cause the problem. Rebuilding the forks, Progressive springs, etc, etc. There is no definite "written in stone" solution.

Interesting article regarding this problem and head bearings. http://www.motorcycleproject.com/motorc ... cking.html

I would do a search here and in the web and do some reading. I would start with the simple stuff and work your way up. I don't know of anyway to pinpoint the problem so you just have to keep chasing the problem. Some have gone through everything and decided if you don't take your hands off it doesn't wobble. I installed balancing beads in my tires and problem is gone, that was mine, the next bike might something else.
