Hi, I am a new owner of a 1985 GL1200 A I just purchased this bike and am having charging issues. I have removed the white connector and soldiered the wires together and am getting 12.5 volts at the battery at 3200rpms. The bike only has 13000 miles on it and I love riding this bike. I have heard of stator problems but at this low mileage can that be the case? I am open to suggestions. I am a mechanic and am willing to try anything please help.

The voltage at 3500 rpm,assuming the battery is OK and all connections have been cleaned,Is low.
Mine would run right at 14.2 volts on the battery.
There's only 2 parts involved here.The stator and recitfier/regulator module.
Either or both could be bad,including corrosion at the regulator plug.
There are tests(ohms and volts) for the 3 yellow wires.Volts are measured between each pair,not to ground.
It's a 3 phase alternator that produces around 25 volts AC between any 2 pair of wires at 1000 rpm.
Unplug the regulator and test there.
There should be NO continuity to ground from the yellow wires.
If its OK,replace the regulator module.
