leaking caliper

Postby tileguy » Tue Aug 20, 2013 8:37 am

1200 I, left front caliper leaking after rebuild, went through this thing around 4 times . Its funny, I put constanced pressure on the system I have no leak but let stand with no pressure I have a leak.
The question is redo seals again ? The left side is a differt size than the right. any ideas?
Thanks , Tileguy

By your description,I can only guess at 2 possibilities.
Either the piston is scored/pitted or the seat in the caliper is pitted from oxidation.
When you put pressure on the hydraulics,it pushes the seal tight against both,no leaks.
Unless the seal is damaged, there's nothing gained by replacing it again
Find out where its leaking past the seal.

reall through clean on seats and back together. Now to wait & see if there is a leak.

Nope...definitely not. It would both seize solid and leak like a sieve if it was. The clearances/tolerances are necessarily quite tight in the caliper.

Yea got you, I checked them, I'm going to get another set of seals & that doesn't work, replace the caliper. Thanks

Another set of seal did the trick
