turns over but no spark

Postby davebonaked51 » Fri Aug 23, 2013 6:08 pm

Just bought a 1985 goldwing 1200 LD bobber . here is where i am at so far. bought a new battery and put new gas in tank. bike set for two years. bike motor turns over fine but thats it. i took out sprk plug and still hooked to plug wire and put end of plug against motor and no spark. does this mean bad coils ? i took both wires off back of coils and tested with ohm meter and got 5 ohms both coils. thats is a good reading for good coils , right ? i took off two right side plug wires and tested for continuity with ohm meter and the end that goes into the coil the hole is so small that even when i used a paper clip to put into hle i could not get continuity on each plug wire. hard to believe though both plug wires are bad ? can you test these plug wires for continuity ? i had a 77 naked goldwing and you guys where big help. well , am back and hope for some help thru this project.

Have you checked all of the plugs for spark? And I have to ask it....is the kill switch turned off?

Kill switch..yes.
From there look for volts on the ECM.
Also the 4 wire plug to the left of the battery. Its the pulse coil connection.

You can download a suitable manual here.If the kill switch has been removed, there will be 2 wires that need to be connected to get power to the ignition.Post if you can't find them.
