Intermittent Odometer

Post by DRWard » Sun Aug 25, 2013 6:11 pm

I have a 1984 GL1200 Aspencade with the digital dash. My odometer works intermittently. Sometimes I can go for hundreds of kilometers, then all of a sudden it will stop. Never seems to be any certain riding condition that causes it, and it will start working again maybe the next time I ride, sometimes not. Trip meter, tach, and speedo all work just fine. Any ideas where to start looking? Or should I search out a new drive motor for the odometer?

Intermittent problems are hard to nail down...It can be as simple as a cold solder joint on the pc board that the odometer motor plugs into.
As I recall it's a 'stepper' motor...multiple wires feed it.
It is controlled by a IC on the pc board....
I suspect it's a problem there before the motor....Look for hairline cracks around any connector pins.
