1987 gl 1200 i rear wheel flange

Postby ronscycle1. » Sat Sep 07, 2013 8:12 pm

ok I came up with a finial drive but need to know which rear wheel drive flange has the larger hole for the rear wheel bearing housing the 84-85 or the 86-87 gl 1200 ? I got the rear end off a 87 gl 1200 but must of been switched it had a new flange with the small hole. also when i go to greese the splines its says to use moly 60 greese I went to the auto store and got SUPER LITHIUM EP MOLY GREESE,extreme pressure greese with moly will this work ?

Really? You wait all of a few hours and because no kind, helpful volunteer has come up with the information you want (which, incidentally is easily available if you try using that neat little SEARCH button in the top right corner), you say it's a joke? Perhaps if you were a little more friendly, and didn't ask questions that have been answered dozens of times before, instead helping yourself using the search function, people would be more inclined to help you out.

In any case, the 86-87 has the larger bearing hole. And no, the auto store grease will not work - you will end up destroying your splines in short order. It must be actual 60% moly, and the easiest cheapest source of it is Honda.

I guess im going to put a 87 used finial drive on the bike its a little less than half wore on the splines with a flange from a salvage yard, the guy that I got the finial drive from used the flange on another bike . Do you think this will last very long ?

As long as you keep it well lubricated with the proper Moly lubricant, you shouldn't have a problem.
