The squeaky wheel er throttle?

Postby LDodge » Mon Sep 09, 2013 12:46 pm

Hi all --
Sometimes when I rotate the throttle on my bike a squeal comes from the front of the bike; I thought it might be brakes / transmission as if it happens is usually going from 1st to 2nd, but today I was in neutral and gave it a little gas and got the same squeal? Any thoughts?
thanks in advance
Lawrence

First suspect is a bad bearing in the timing belt idler wheel.
Don't delay. If it is bad and should seize,it can ruin your day.Not to mention the motor should the belt come apart.

Oh,it's probably time to put on new belts anyways.Get them from Napa.there just Gates belts.
There's a "how to" all bout that here somewhere.

*SIGH* Will the nasty repairs ever end? It's not the belts, because when I had her retrofitted with an alternator, the mechanic put on new belts. How do I check the bearings? (Anyone have donations for that repair? :( )
thanks for the advice Virgilmobile. :)

Wait a minute. You didn't mention the add on before.
It could be that belt slipping.
If you can make it squeak, remove the alternator belt and test again or test the tension on it.

Or take a spray bottle, and spray a bit of water on the alternator belt. If the squeak goes away, you know that's the cause.
