Gaskets

Postby seasicksid » Fri Oct 25, 2013 9:11 am

Hi All
I have a 1984 GL 1200. I need a gasket set for the rear of the engine, stator casing, clutch etc. I found a full gasket set in the luggage box of the bike. Great, I thought.
But when I offered the stator casing gasket up to the engine I found a few differences. The holes didn't match up around the clutch and the gasket was too big around the top of the engine block.

Are there different gaskets for these engines? I'm a bit concerned because I don't want to order the wrong set.
Engine number is SC14E- 2410708. 1181cm3

Cheers

Sid

Sorry you are not getting the answers you are looking for, and myself being inexperienced on overhauling that particular engine, am afraid I can't help you much either. I'm thinking the gasket set you have is not for that engine even tho it came with the bike. The only way to be sure you have the right kit is to order it using the model and serial number from Honda or a reputable parts dealer. Good luck.

Good advice. Thought I was getting something for nothing when I saw the gasket set. The previous owner is no longer around for me to ask. Ho hum.

The world is not going to finish today, as it is already tomorrow in Australia and New Zealand, and other islands of foreign nations such as Guam and Samoa.

Hi Sid,
Your not related to Seasick Steve I take it.
For genuine Honda parts I use these people, found them very helpful.

The 84 1200 engine was a one year only. Redesigned for 85 - 87. Sounds like you had the gasket set for the later models.

'Impossible' is just a level of difficulty! The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask first!
