shifter does not work properly

Postby guido04@comcast.net » Fri Oct 25, 2013 9:00 pm

I have an 86 GL1200A. The V rocker shifter does not work very well as the bike and transmission is old. The stock floorboards will not allow me to shift from 1st to 2nd, it catches on raised foot peg at times. Does anyone know of a normal toe shifter that I can use and keep my floorboards? I prefer the control in traffic that the toe shifter provides that the V rocker does not. I tried removing the v rocker and adjusting the shift arm to allow my boot underneath, but there is not enough clearance before the shift arm hits the lower edge of the engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

im not sure if this applies but, look at the fork that contacts the shifter arm. There's a rubber sleeve on the shifter arm that may be replaced with a piece of rubber hose. This eliminates any free movement in the heel/toe lever.

Thank you, I was able to tighten up the looseness in the V rocker, but I am still interested in replacing the shifter with a standard toe shifter, I prefer the control a little better. Any ideas of what might work and clear the engine?
