Replacement screws for left pocket.

Postby tbeiler » Tue Nov 19, 2013 7:30 am

Did some inspection on the 86 Aspendcade and found 3 of 4 screws were just turning that hold the left pocket tray in place. Right side are good and tight.
The screws are self tapping and measure at 4mm width, and 15.5 mm length.
I'm looking to stay with the JIS, only going a little bit longer so they bite into new plastic and hold better. I suppose I could go to a North American 3/16 fastener with 5/8 length, but I don't want to mix and match JIS and N/A specs ( North american philips vs Japanese philips )
Anyone know of where to get JIS fasteners in southern Ontario.
Thanks

Good luck! It's hard enough even finding JIS screwdrivers, let alone JIS fasteners!

That said, when I had this issue on my 1100 where the screws stripped out the plastic in the pocket, I fixed it using two different methods.

Two of the holes I put a drop of ABS glue (MEK will work as well) in the hole, let it soften up the plastic, then screwed the screw into place (without the pocket, so no strain). Let it sit for a day while the soft plastic formed around the screw threads, then backed the screw out. Good as new.

The other two holes were stripped out too far to fix this way, so I used U-clips - metal clips that clip over the plastic, and provide a metal hole to put the screw into:

Thanks for the reply.
Didn't think getting OEM fasteners would be this difficult.
So, I guess its plan B for me, i'll give the ABS glue method a shot.
Always grateful for the good advice, hope to pass on the same in the future.
