GL1200 float bowl drain

Postby SilverDave » Sun Dec 01, 2013 10:24 am

I have a completely re-built GL1200 A carb / head gasket , done less than a 100 kms ago... and another Hydrolock ... agh !

The ZATAOMM* analysis from a mechanical friend is that the bike sat for quite awhile with no gas line preservative, and although its a new fuel filter and all... there may have been some gunge and gas varnish in the lines after the filter, or possibly in the fuel pump ....
so.......

Possible fixes :
SeaFoam ? certainly or MMO Probably ?
On the road " tune up" and several tanks of new gas ? - also a good idea ...
He also suggested opening the Float bowl drains, and draining the float bowls ... to flush out any possible old varnish .

I can clearly see the brass drain screw on Cylinder #4 its a slotted brass screw ?...but

Does anyone know if ALL 4 float bowls can be drained without removing the carbs ( again ? ) ...

or does anyone have a clear pic of the access to the four drain screws??

Thanks
SilverDave

I was able to drain the bowls on my 86 about this time last year with out taking off the carbs from the bike. All of the screw heads should be the same.

In my experience, if you are hydro-locking the engine, and it is only one cylinder, you may have a float that is "sunk". They can leak and fill up with gas and not shut off the gas anymore. Debris may be the cause, but not if you just rebuilt them all and put fresh gas in it.

Good Luck

All screws are the same so look for that.
