I have a new battery and an altenator installed on my 1984 gl1200a. If it sits for 2 days with out riding , the battery is dead. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First thing I'd check is whether the battery is bad - even though it's new you might have gotten a defective one. After that you've got to start looking for a short to ground somewhere. That could be tough to track down. Start with the positive battery cable and check every wire you can get to. Look for anything that looks burnt or melted or insulation that's missing or worn.
I Had the same problem and it was a bad wire to the wiring harness. Quick and inexpensive fix. I was worried because I thought it was the alternator which is big money to fix.
