If you have a hill or some friends, you can get it started without the starter. Put it in gear (2nd or 3rd works best), get the bike switched on, hold the clutch in, then roll (or push) the bike forward. Once you've got a decent speed, let the clutch out. The momentum of the bike will crank the engine over, and if all goes well, it will start right up. If the engine is cold, it can take several attempts to get it running this way.

Don't attempt this by yourself - you should be on the bike controlling it with friends pushing it. Otherwise you run the very real risk of the bike starting up and taking off down the road without you!
