cooling fan

can someone tell me where to look to find the cooling fan relay and temp switch on 86 1200 inerstate would be located. I have been running my bike while looking for rear brake short and inoticed my temp gage getting close to red and fans not kicking in,i had the stator replaced last fall just thinking wire might be off the fuse is good thanks

To my knowledge,there is no relay.12 volts is 10 amp fused and goes directly to the fan.The ground wire of the fan attach to one of the contacts of the thermal switch.The other contact is ground.
Test..... Turn on the key and ground the fan wire to test the fan.If it runs,replace the switch,If it doesn't check the volts at the fan.

jumped the switch connector fan run, so i plugged back in and i wiggled the wires and it works now, must have been bad connection.
