New guy here, gonna stir the tire pot...

Postby Flameout990 » Mon Mar 31, 2014 10:58 am

Hello everyone! I'm new and have been trolling for a couple weeks since I bought my '86 Aspy. I've since done the timing belts, plugs, and air filter. Anyway, im going to put some new skins on her. Can someone please give me an idea what you are having good luck with in 2014 on the 1200? I don't mean to begin yet another tire thread but my eyes are going crossed reading all the posts. I realize there is a darksider group but for now I'd like to stay with a set of mc tires(not that I'm completely closed off to the idea, just not now). To the collective, what works? Thank you! Walt

I have used Shinko and will use them again. My Pirelli tires are doing well. At first I didn't like them. I am not sure if it took awhile to break them in or I got used to them.

Golden, were those the Shinko 230s or 777s?

I put the Shinko 230's on two seasons ago and they are awesome... Probably get a couple more months on them before I change them out and I will be getting the same. 8-)

I'm getting ready to replace front, and rear tires,on my 1200,also.
I've pretty much decided to go with the Avon Venom rear, and Avon Cobra front.
I'm busier than a one-legged cat,in a sandbox !
I can't fix it,if it ain't broke...you want me to break it,first ???

Give me a Goldwing,...or give me Viagra, cuz either way, I'm gonna ride !

Just an update.

First of all thank you all for responding.

I found the Shinko's and pulled the trigger on a pair of 230's. I don't have too many miles on them yet but I have to say quite a difference from the old tires that had been on there since '01. That front was actually molded/welded to the front wheel and the carcass was so stinking hard I couldn't break the bead without BIG tools and some help.

Anyway, so far so good and they balanced up nicely. What are dyna beads anyway.

Again, thanks for the replies. Ride safe, everyone is out to kill you! Walt
