Bodywork change

Postby fixeverything » Mon Apr 14, 2014 2:31 pm

Has anyone transplanted the rear bodywork from a Gl1500 onto a Gl1200? I want to turn my GL1200 into a bagger, and I really like the looks of the GL1500 luggage compared to the GL1200. I don't care much about the trunk, but the bags have a sleeker look as they wrap around the bike, compared to the Gl1200 luggage which looks like the filler panel in the rear was an afterthought.

You may want to check this out, as this guy is creative with an older Wing.

It's good to see I'm not the only one with such an idea, but the link doesn't provide enough details. I'd love to see some in progress pictures of such a thing. I guess what I need to see are the GL1500 bag brackets to compare to mine.

That site is pretty limited and broken.

I've been looking at things on ebay, looks like the 1200 and 1500 frame are close enough that I should be able to mount the 1500 subframe with minimal mods. Might have to make a couple new mounts on the frame to accommodate, but not much. I'm thinking this should be an easy enough swap. I'll have to start getting some cash to the side to make this happen this winter. Gonna be a pretty secky bagger when it's done :D
