Hazy "old" Slipstreamer Windshield

Postby SilverDave » Wed Apr 16, 2014 8:44 am

My 13 year old, extra tall Slipstreamer windshield on my 1200 Aspy is just starting to get hazy ... only noticeable when driving into the rising / setting sun .

I like this attachment :
...its just tall enough for me to just peek over the top in a driving rainstorm.
... it has a useful, working vent for summer
... it keeps all moisture off the instruments
... and it nicely echo's the lines of the fairing in a way that the original 1200 'shield never did .

It has NO circular scratches that I can see ... It has only been cleaned with soapy water, soft terry cloths , and "Plexus" over all those years ... and never with hard circular polishing .
But its lightly "Hazy" in direct , low angle light .

So .. Is this likely a "inside" haze ? or can this be polished out ... ?
or
Should I realize that after 13 years, nothing lasts forever ...... heavy sigh ... and just buy another ?

Maybe try a headlight polishing kit. Some have ultra fine pads & compound to remove the haze.

I had the same hazed over look on my windshield. Got some of that headlight reconditioning stuff at the local Wally World. Worked great, no more squinting and eye strain especially with the oncoming headlights from other motorists.

Well... I was able to get rid of most of the haze :
Plexus is not only a cleaner, but a very gentle polish ...( or so it says on the can )

So I polished it vigorously with Plexus in small sections, over several days , and its now pretty clear ...
a little foggy near the vent area... but rest is now ok.

I polished mine too - with perfect result. In Scandinavia/Europe "Xerapol" works wonders. Deeper scratches first use wet sandingpaper 500/800/1000/1200 depending on the scratch deepth, and polish "hard" with xerapol.
