oil change

Postby bllazerhoper » Fri May 02, 2014 10:37 am

Ok I did the first oil change on my goldwing since I got it I only put 300 miles on it I was waiting on a oil filter anyway the oil was real black and the filter looked awful I don't think the guy before me has been changing it like he should have.with that being said at what intervals should oil and filter be changed?

If you ride a lot 5,000 mile oil change intervals are OK. If you don't ride a lot then change oil at the beginning and end of the riding season.
In your case right now I would run the fresh oil you just put in for about 500 miles then change it and the filter. Some of that old black oil your spoke of probably remained in some parts of the engine so get it out soon.

Ok got all the new oil putt in and new oil filter started it up and wow it is running quieter and smoother I took it around town it is like a different bike I didn't know that a oil change could do that but I'll take it.

If its possibly been years of rare oil changes ... I'd run it for about 500 or so, drain a half quart, add some MMO or seafoam , and after another 200 miles , drain it all out again, and start with some good, new oil ..
MMO will clear out even more " gunge "

I will do that.ifI can make it the rest of the season before stator fires out it is only charging on two of the yellow wires so far with some lights unplugged it is charging enough to ride it but when it goes out time for poor boy kit
