86 Aspencade - With engine running, I cannot hear the tick of the fuel pump, but when I put my hand on it, you can feel the thumping. Is this normal condition.

I changed out my 85 Aspy pump after it left me on the side of the road without any warning at all.It never was noisey ever so I never noticed a difference until it quit.Pulled it apart for a look and there was a set of points in there that were burnt to the point of welding themselves together.
If I'da known it would last this long,I'da taken better care of it.
