1986 sei riding then nothing

Postby wing86new1 » Tue Jun 03, 2014 6:24 am

was riding this morning about 45mph, then the bike just dies- coasted off to the side of the road, hit the starter and it restarted but the fuel light was lit. So I shut off the bike turned it back on and restarted again fuel light out - ran fine all the way. voltage was 14.5v when died, have not had this issue since the stator/regulator changeout. Could it be a faulty safety switch (run/stop) or ??? I am confused, unfortunately I could not look at the computer diag lights as I was in someones grass. any thoughts?

I had the same issue with my 1986 sei. After many hours of troubleshooting I found the sensor that shuts off the engine when the bike is on it's side malfunctioned. Can't remember the name of the sensor (suffering from CRS), Angle Sensor maybe.

well found the issue last night, the angle sensor was not the issue, turns out that it was the fuel pump relay, i tapped it with a screwdriver and it died almost instantly, and I could repeat the condition, swapped it with the air ride relay (since they are the same) tapped it again and was all ok. hopefully thats the last of the repairs for awhile :D
