Pilot screw question

Postby jtimgrant » Thu Jul 17, 2014 7:02 pm

After setting the carbs following the manual, has anyone actually counted the turns? Or, has anyone checked the turns BEFORE removing them for carb work? I just set mine again while I had the fairing off for valve stem seals. They are all around 2 1/4 turns out. Seems a little rich since it runs without afterburn even with the slow air cutoff valve disconnected. On the 86/87 you start from 1 3/4. So, anybody counted?

When I popped the caps off mine,I counted the turns on each one.
Sheesh..they were 3 turns,1.5 turns,2.5 turns and 2 turns out.
I flushed the ports and preset then at 2.
After a carb sync,I did do the idle do the idle down adjustment on each one.
They ended up around the 1.75 range. Each bike is different as is each carb.

Thanks for answering this Virgilmobile. I think I'm out a bit too much. No running issues at all just a slight exhaust smell on decel even with the slow air cutoff disconnected. In face as I said it doesn't even need the cutoff. No lean burn issues like it is set now. I wrote the original setting down before building the carbs THEN promptly threw them in the trash. Lord I miss my mind. But back on subject . . . I seem to remember all were slightly less than 2 turns.

Hope all is well.
