Headlamp bulb 90 watt ?

Postby loopy » Sun Jul 27, 2014 12:26 am

I have been reading many posts re installing the silvanvia silver star globe which are very hard to find in Australia.
I was told by a Goldwing mechanic that I could put a H4 90 watt bulb in place of the 55 watt.

Apparently the 1200 wiring is very good and could handle the extra 3 amps that would be required to run the 90 watt bulb.

Can anyone shed any light on this idea.

Have you tried eBay? Also, you may find it under Osram as well as Sylvania.

Only use original H4 Watt rating !!!
The picture shows the damage a 80/90W H4 bulb creates over time to the plastic silver painted reflector inside the lamp housing.
In Europe common use is H4 55/60W

This bulb is an option and provides ultra bright white light... i use it in my GL1200 Aspencade... i prefer bulbs with ultra bright white light in stead of "blue" types. Blue types may look cooler, like xenon, but won't provide the same useable light output.

One thing to keep in mind is that all standard bulbs are the same wattage only the color has been changed to fool the eyes. It is all a marketing ploy anyways. I don't think the wiring will handle the extra amperage long term and besides it creates more heat and will damage the reflector (as we have been shown).
I would suggest a HID headlight instead. Yes more money but still less current draw than your present bulbs.
