High beam not working

Postby loopy » Tue Jul 29, 2014 2:31 am

I have fitted a new headlamp globe to my 1200 interstate BUT high beam is not working. Was not working with old globe as well.
Low beam is fine. I have used circuit board cleaner inside the switch but no go.
Any ideas anyone.

So obviously power is getting interrupted somewhere between the high beam switch and the headlight connector. You're going to need to use a voltmeter to see at which point the power disappears - do you have power coming out of the high/low switch when it is in high? If so, go farther down the harness toward the headlight, etc.

A quick look at the instruments will help narrow this down...
Does the blue high beam indicator lamp come on when you operate the switch...
If it does, the switch is working and there is a bad connection going to the lamp ( I think it's the blue wire)...Look at the plug at the faring...left side..Mine corroded through the marker lamp wire(brown).
If the lamp doesn't come on either, get to the wires at the switch...

Time to get to the switch.test probe each wire. One is 12 volts.the other go to the headlight.verify the switch is bad before you disassemble it
