1986 Aspencade Electrical ??????

Postby goldwingdwb » Tue Sep 23, 2014 9:40 am

I have bought a 1986 Aspencade SEI, runs great but has since had electrical probs ? Stopped to fuel up, when started back up no ignition lights or digital readouts would work ? Anyone else had this problem or has ideas as to the problem ?? Just don't know where to start looking !

My first look see shows a couple of fuses that are not in the fuse block....
Going by memory,I think if you remove the left pocket, you'll find 2 fuse holders on the inside against the side by the harness...
This brings up another point...On my 84 interstate,I lost volts going to the faring...mine was the marker lights...I found corrosion in that faring plug..
Before you go too far, remove the rubber covering on the left side by the pocket...reach down and wiggle that plug..(with the key on)...If there's a bad connection, the dash should light back up...
This is not a fix..just a "identify" the problem...
Should it be bad..cleaning "might" fix it..or in my case,I had to bypass the corroded contact with a new wire..

The symptoms can be caused by burnt wiring around the dog bone fuse, and the starter solenoid. they situated to the right of the battery, when checking the fuse take it right out its very hard to see any cracks by just looking.
