Can I still use this somehow??

Ordered 1977 gauges to place on my 1987 gl1200. I'm bobbing her out. Noticed the tachometer is not electronic since it has a cable hookup. Can I still use this? If so , how?
Thanks

You may be better off swapping it for one off a Kawasaki Z1, Z650, Z900, Z1000 or an aftermarket electronic tacho. Cable rev counters usually run off a worm gear off either the crank or cam shaft; where as electronic ones run using electronic pulses generated as part of the ignition system; pulse generator or some such.

Don't forget to check the ratio is the same as the 1200.

Elaborate on "ratio".

the ratio of turns or pulses to degrees of needle movement, take a look at the second ebay listing.
